Urban Farm

God’s Storehouse is excited to be a part of the growing trend towards conducting urban agriculture projects in the city of Danville. This program was developed with our strategic plan and our work with the Health Collaborative in mind. We see community gardens and other urban agriculture endeavors as a step in the right direction in creating a healthier population and making fresh produce more accessible to our customers. In the coming months, we will begin work on our own urban farm on a lot adjacent to our facility on Memorial Drive.

This program will focus on creating a community garden where customers, civic organizations, and community members interested in growing their own food can learn and grow together through:

  • Working in raised garden beds
  • Planting native fruit trees and shrubs
  • Distributing excess produce to our customers

Through this work, we can contribute to creating a more robust local food system for our community. We are hoping this space will be a safe place for all people to come and be a part of something positive. We can’t wait to see you at the garden and look forward to what the future holds not only for God’s Storehouse but all of Danville and Pittsylvania County!
