“The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops,
but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.”
― Masanobu Fukuoka, The One-Straw Revolution
The Urban Farm at God's Storehouse is a community farming space that works to increase the access of healthy and fresh food to the residents of Danville and Pittsylvania County. The once empty lot now holds raised garden beds, a greenhouse, a fully stocked tool shed, and a composting facility with plans for a lot more in the coming years!
We strive to create a stronger and more equitable food system in our community through:
- educational workshops
- volunteer opportunities
- community events
As the Urban Farm expands, we plan to grow fresh fruits and vegetables in a sustainable and natural way to sell at local farmers markets, donate to God’s Storehouse, and to donate to community members.
In the coming months, we will be creating a “Community Farm Council” with members of the community coming together to plan, engage, and discuss ideas and goals for the urban farm. The council will be open to anyone who is interested in being involved; we hope to see you there!
In the spring of 2020, we will be launching our new “Rental Plot System” which will allow community members to reserve a raised bed from March-October. This program will give people access to gardening space in a central location, with enough room and resources to have a flourishing garden of their choice.
We welcome anyone to volunteer on the farm, no skills necessary. If you or your organization is interested in getting involved, volunteering, or helping with a project, please contact Morgan.
